Jack Richards and his twin brother, Nick, woke up with excitement. Today was the first day of the State Fair. Usually the twins didn’t go to the Fair because they lived over four hours away in the city, but this year they had a chance since they were staying at their Uncle Joe and Aunt Audrey’s horse ranch.
The twins had always dreamed of living on a ranch, and this summer their mother had surprised them for their birthday. It was hard work mucking out stalls, brushing the horses down and hauling bales of hay, but the boys were happy to trade the morning work for the fun afternoons of horse riding, fishing, and hiking. And today, when Uncle Joe got back from his early morning trip into town, they were hoping he would let them go to the Fair.
"Nick, look at this!" Jack had just finished dressing and held out his hand to Nick.
"Where did you find this?" asked Nick. He took the envelope from Jack.
"It was on the floor. I think Aunt Audrey or Uncle Joe must have slipped it under the door while we were sleeping."
Nick carefully opened the large envelope. He felt the outline of an old fashioned skeleton key inside. He pulled out the key and noticed a small slip of paper. The paper had numbers on it: N 42° 59.056 W 077° 43.957.
